Pre-event à Paris – 3rd of april 2024

Submeeting 2024- 27-31 of May 2024

SUBMEETING 2024 is a two-part event:

  • A hybrid pre-event day on April 3 at EPITA Paris: scientific presentations on the field of underwater robotics and preparation of experimentation plans for the submeeting.
  • A week of experimentation in Saint-Raphaël, from May 27 to 31: provision of a maritime experimental zone including a port area, coastal zones and two emblematic Esterel diving sites: the Lion de Mer and the Pyramides. Depths range from 7 to 60 meters. As well as being in clear water, these sites feature many points of interest, such as distinct rocky drifts, anfractuosities, caves, arches, coralligenous, posidonia, submerged sculptures and more. On some sites, a ground truth will be established. To get to remote sites, a large dive boat capable of carrying 3 teams and a zodiac capable of carrying one team will be made available.

Submission guide for young researchers posters and presentations

If you’re a master’s student, doctoral student or post-doctoral researcher, now’s the time to present your research work in the form of a presentation (doctoral students, post-doctoral students) or poster (doctoral students, post-doctoral students and master’s students) to companies and academic researchers in your field.

This evening is organized by young researchers for young researchers, in a format conducive to exchange: a short 10-minute presentation in English followed by a Q&A session (for PhD students and postdocs). One of the seminar presentations will be chosen to complete the panel of researchers at the public evening on Wednesday. It is during this evening that you will have the opportunity to discuss your work with the help of your posters.

To register for the seminar and submit your presentation, please fill in the form below.

Guide to submitting experimental plans for Submeeting

The SUBMEETING experimentation week will take place from May 27 to 31, 2024, from the Boulouris harbor in Saint Raphaël. In order to organize the provision of test facilities, we ask you to present the broad outlines of your experimental protocols in advance, while providing as much information as possible about your requirements in terms of boat space (including passengers and equipment) and the types of environment desired (depth, type of bottom, absence/presence of current, drifting, etc.).

We encourage you to present these protocols and the research they support at the April pre-event. This day is an opportunity to refine the proposed protocols, check their administrative framework, and group together experiments requiring similar resources in order to anticipate the pooling of resources. It’s also an opportunity to present the scientific part of your research, which we won’t have time to do during the experimental week.

A 20-passenger dive boat, 4 small underwater robots and 10-passenger zodiacs are available for participants. These boats will take you to depths ranging from 10 to 70m, depending on your experimental needs. The port, its pontoons and jetty, and the seafront are also ideal places for experimentation.

Time slots can be booked by the hour or half-day. Boats will depart from remote sites for the half-day.

Priority for boarding the boats will be given to experimenters, and observers will only be able to board with the pilot’s authorization, on the same day if places are available.

To take part in the experiments, participants must fill in the form below. You may propose more than one experimental design, but you must make one submission per experiment, specifying the order of priority.

A description of the physical characteristics of the robots you wish to take on board will be requested on the form, so that we can apply to the relevant authorities for authorizations. You’ll also need to describe the ancillary equipment you’ll be taking on board, choose the vessels best suited to your needs and the sites you’d like to visit.

A review of the proposals received and a selection will be made by the organizers. Participants will be notified whether or not their experiment(s) has/have been accepted.

Please note that experiments will take place subject to weather conditions and related reorganizations. Sites will be adapted daily according to the weather, and confirmed at the briefing the day before the experiments.

Robots can be shared on request. These requests can be discussed during the pre-event presentations.
